Setup guide

Ready to sell in about 30 minutes

After you sign up, the admin panel walks you through a step-by-step setup wizard. This page shows the process before you buy, and is the place to come back to if you get stuck along the way.

How long does it take?

  • Quick start
Menu imported from photos with AI, no printer; bills printed from the browser, orders on the kitchen display.
    ≈ 30 min
  • Full setup
Thermal printers and Print Agent, every tablet and waiter phone, printed QR codes.
    ≈ 60–90 min
  • Typing the menu by hand
Depends on the number of items. You can also start from the sample menu and edit later.
    + 20–40 min

Times are estimates for a typical café or restaurant. The wizard saves your progress, so you can take a break and continue on another device.

Checklist

Prepare before you start

With these at hand you can finish setup in one sitting. Tick them off as you go (not saved on this page).

Hardware

Recommended devices

You are not tied to any brand. If your current devices meet these specs, you do not need to buy anything new.

Till / POS tablet

A 10-inch or larger screen is comfortable for touch use.

  • 10"+ Android tablet or iPad
  • Up-to-date Chrome / Safari
  • Charging stand or fixed cable

Waiter phone

Waiters can use their own phones; the app runs in the browser.

  • Recent Android or iPhone
  • Wi-Fi coverage across the floor

Thermal receipt printer

For kitchen and bill tickets. A network printer is the easiest to set up.

  • 80 mm (58 mm also supported)
  • ESC/POS compatible
  • Ethernet or Wi-Fi (network printer)

Windows PC

Runs the Print Agent. It does not need to be powerful, just on the same network as the printers.

  • Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
  • On all day, sleep disabled
  • Wired connection preferred

Finding the printer’s IP address

You need the IP address to add a network printer. On most thermal printers:

The IP address can change over time. Reserving a fixed IP for the printer in your router (DHCP reservation) removes the most common cause of “the printer stopped printing”.
Supported printers and hardware details (TR)
  1. 1 Turn the printer off and make sure paper is loaded.
  2. 2 Hold the paper FEED button while turning it on, release after a few seconds.
  3. 3 Find the “IP Address” line on the printed self-test page (e.g. 192.168.1.50).
  4. 4 No self-test page? Check the “connected devices” list in your router’s admin page or the printer manual.
Devices

Device setup

The POS, waiter app and kitchen display run in the browser — nothing to download. Add them to the home screen and they open full screen like an app.

Tablet POS

Open the POS link or QR code from Setup → Devices on the tablet; your business code is filled in automatically.

Android (Chrome)
  1. 1Tap the ⋮ menu at the top right.
  2. 2Choose “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”.
  3. 3Open FavolaPOS from the home screen and sign in with your PIN.
iPad (Safari)
  1. 1Tap the Share icon in the address bar.
  2. 2Choose “Add to Home Screen”.
  3. 3Open it from the home screen and sign in with your PIN.

Extend the screen timeout and keep the tablet charging.

Waiter phones

Each waiter sets up their phone once, then only enters a PIN.

Steps
  1. 1Scan the waiter QR code from Setup → Devices with the phone camera.
  2. 2The business code is already filled in.
  3. 3Add to home screen (Android: ⋮ → Add to Home screen, iPhone: Share → Add to Home Screen).
  4. 4Sign in with your own PIN.

PINs are personal. If someone leaves or a phone is lost, deactivate the user or change their PIN in the panel.

Kitchen display

Open the POS address on the kitchen tablet or a PC connected to a TV and sign in with a kitchen staff PIN; the kitchen display opens directly.

Steps
  1. 1Open the POS link and sign in with a kitchen PIN.
  2. 2Go full screen: on a tablet add it to the home screen and open from there, on a PC press F11.
  3. 3If you have several stations (grill, bar…), choose which one this screen shows.
  4. 4Tap the screen once after opening so sound alerts can play.

Browsers block sound until the user has touched the page. Tap once every time you reopen the screen.

Troubleshooting

Common issues

Most issues take a few minutes to fix. If you cannot solve it, write to us and we will look at it together remotely.

Ask for setup help
The printer is not printing

First check that the Print Agent is running and the panel shows “Connected”; without it no network printer will print.

Make sure the printer is on, has paper and the cover is closed. Print a self-test page to see whether the IP address changed; if so, update the printer in the panel and reserve a fixed IP in your router.

The printer and the Print Agent PC must be on the same network. Failed jobs appear in the print history in the panel and can be retried with one click.

The Print Agent does not connect

Check that the PC is online and not asleep.

Make sure appsettings.json is in the same folder as the program. If you regenerated the connection key in the panel, the old file is no longer valid — download the settings file again.

If the service will not start (e.g. error 1067), the reason is in the logs file in the program folder. On corporate networks a firewall may block outgoing HTTPS.

A waiter’s PIN does not work

Check the business code shown at the top of the sign-in screen; if it is wrong, tap to fix it or scan the QR code in Setup → Devices again.

PINs are 4–6 digits and personal. Check that the staff member is active in the panel; a manager can reset the PIN from the admin panel.

Kitchen users cannot sign in to the waiter app; use the POS address for the kitchen display.

The QR menu does not open

Check the phone is online and try the QR code with another phone.

If you deleted and recreated tables, old QR codes may no longer work; download and print them again from the panel.

If the menu opens but some items are missing, check that the item or category is active and set to show on the QR menu.

What happens if the internet goes down?

FavolaPOS is cloud-based; taking orders, sending them to the kitchen and recording payments need an internet connection.

When the connection drops, open screens show a warning and continue where they left off once it is back; new actions cannot be sent during the outage.

We recommend keeping mobile data on a phone or a backup 4G router at hand. An offline mode is on our roadmap.

The kitchen display makes no sound

Browsers do not allow sound until the screen has been touched at least once after the page opens. Tap the kitchen display once after opening it.

Check that the device volume is up and it is not in silent mode.
